FYI

  • d2/Omlettes in Kathmandu:  Omlettes in Kasthmandu are crusty.  I hate crusty omlets. . .
  • d2/Veggie Burgers:  The Cosmopolitian Cafe on Kathmandu Durbar Square has the best veggie burger I’ve ever eaten.  Get the cheese filled. . .
  • d2/Virae:  Every travel book tells us to not drink the local water or to not eat things that haven’t been properly cooked or can not be peeled.  What they’ve all forgotted to remind us make sure the firewall and virus software is up to date.  I’ll let ya’ll figure out what happened to my laptop. . .  (the fix was black market software that cost $10.00)
  • d2/Pillows:  Bring your own pillow when traveling in the countries on the south side of the Himalaya’s.  The things put in hotel rooms are more like bricks than feathers.
  • d2/Speed Limit:  The speed limit in Bhutan is 30Km/hr. (that’s less than 20mph)

Salam alaikum! We’re thinking of you two as we’re going for our Friday Starbucks tomorrow…has Starbucks invaded Nepal yet? Hope you are taking care of yourselves…

As yet, there are no Starbucks in Nepal nor McDonalds. Only Baskens and Robins, Diet Coke, and some hippie wannabe’s.

How wonderful to hear from the two of you! You have been on our minds, but we have been unable to use the blog and email info you gave us before we left. It’s a long story, but the short version is that Jean’s wallet was stolen from her purse in Bangkok. She lost all her Qatari ID, her credit cards, her Social Security card, and the note you’d written with your info. Thanks so much for taking the initiative to contact us and remind us of your contact info! We’re really enjoying your travels and the photos. It’s hard to believe you’ve actually gotten beyond the reach of Starbucks!! J&J

J&J, sorry to hear about the Bangkok incident. We should start a new Been Burgled in Bangkok club; except our incident happened in Chiag Mai. All is well here and safe journeys

Oh how we miss you!

Your rain sagas made me remember this from Rumi:

Chickpea to Cook

A chickpea leaps almost over the rim of the pot
where it’s being boiled.

“Why are you doing this to me?”

The cook knocks him down with the ladle.

“Don’t you try to jump out.
You think I’m torturing you.
I’m giving you flavor,
so you can mix with spices and rice
and be the lovely vitality of a human being.

Remember when you drank rain in the garden.
That was for this.”

With love,
Christy
